Some of the ihc digesters (those who participate in the ihc digest on the internet) who were in attendance at the April '98 Tulare Farm Equipment Show and International Harvester Rendezvous

Back row from l to r : Tom Harais, Joel Brodsky, Mark Pepe, Scott Malchalk

Front row: John Hofstetter, aka Ol' Saline, and John Landry

Note that to our right of John L. is his Scout Patriot Traveler and just beyond John's vehicle is a cherry 79 Terra owned by Bill ? from Tulare. Unfortunately, we didn't photographically catch other digesters such as Jim Grammar, and others whom I've forgotten.

Lunch in Rhyolite

left to right: Nicholas, the begging dog; Chuckawalla Wanda, John's buddy, Tommy O'Borne; John Landry; and Bill Thebert

Rhyolite, the town built to last forever, is located on the eastern boundary of Death Valley. It was built of stone, marble, walnut and other exotic woods, but lacked the water necessary to maintain the town, and so was destroyed for salvage and the materials hauled off to build other towns. Beatty, Nevada, a few miles away, was built out of whatever was available, but was built on top of the underground Amargosa river so exists today as much more than a ghost town.

Chuckawalla insists that only in the back of the Terra can one properly assimilate the wonders of this canyon. She already has John convinced and Bill Thebert will make the move a bit later.

Titus Canyon, although it can be traversed by most any vehicle, is truly one of the greatest trips in Death Valley National Park, although it can really only be seen from the back of a Scout.
