As the back of the photo (shown on the right of the photo) says, this picture is of the Wood Shop class held in the back of the school in the lean-to section. Kenneth Schwoerer, known to us as Dutch, lent me the picture and wrote the names on the back. Dutch told me years ago, that this experience when he was about in the 5th grade, determined his career for him. Vocational training doesn't get any better than that.

I think the big boy in the 1st row may be Jack Fugitt, based on looking at pictures of the whole student body.

Dutch also told me that one day when they were working out in the wood shop, that he and J.T. Purviance got into an argument. Monroe grabbed both boys by the back of the neck and banged their heads together. No more arguing, and both boys went back to work.

He also told me that on his first day of school at Jenny Lind, he told the teacher (not Monroe) that he was there to learn reading and arithmetic and not to do whatever it was that the teacher was telling him to do. His butt got spanked on the spot, and Dutch decided that whatever it was that he thought, he perhaps should be careful about what he said.
